Billings Forge Community Works is proud to hold the largest Farmers’ Market in Hartford.

Our summer market features fruits, vegetables, dairy products, and meats, all grown in Connecticut. The summer market is also a great place to spend your lunch hour eating at the Kitchen, Firebox, or one of our food trucks.

Each first market of the month features additional craft and specialty vendors, guest food trucks, and music.

The market accepts Cash, Credit/Debit, and EBT Cards.

Other Market Info

  • Oh SNAP! We Double Snap!

Bring your SNAP/EBT Card to the market table to double your SNAP/EBT dollars up to $20. That means:

$5.00 SNAP/EBT = $10 Billings Bucks to spend at the market
    $10 SNAP/EBT = $20 Billings Bucks
    $20 SNAP/EBT = $40 Billings Bucks

Hartford has several farmers markets, but Billings Forge operates one of just four markets that accept SNAP (formerly food stamps) and other federal nutrition benefits. Since 2010, we have doubled these nutrition benefits that are spent on local, fresh produce by using Double Value Coupons, and the demand has been tremendous. In 2014, more than 500 unduplicated low-income residents redeemed nutrition benefits at the market. We match this spending dollar-for-dollar up to $20 per person. Our market runs year-round and draws a steady stream of new food stamp shoppers.

The Double Value Coupons are an effective way to combat both hunger and obesity. Research has shown that healthier eating habits that began with coupons continue long-term, not just while the subsidy is offered. By targeting just recipients of federal nutrition benefits, we are able to effectively reach people in need of services.

  • Fresh Express

From June through October, Aetna and The Hartford sponsor shuttles that run between the corporate headquarters and the market, as well as a shuttle to Immanuel House, a senior living facility. The shuttles are free to riders.

In addition, Billings Forge manages the Fresh Express card, which provides incentives for all farmers market clients to come to the market weekly. Our market matches federal nutrition benefits (EBT, formerly food stamps) dollar for dollar up to $20.

Fresh Express is a shuttle and program to engage corporate employees and low-income residents in Billings Forge’s year round farmers market.
